The following is information given by Sharon Gisselman after her trip to India last year:The Philip & Timothy Stains Memorial Children’s Home inMadurai, India will be the Mission Offering for July, but the story is worth reading ahead of that time.

The orphanage is five separate housing facilities providing care for approximately 150 girls and boys.In addition to food, clothing and medical care, education is very important. The ideal situation is for the orphanage to run its own school. This would eliminate tuition for the children who attend nongovernment schools. In addition, a school would generate tuition income from students in the surrounding area who want to attend a quality school. The story about the Staines Family is a reminder about the difficulties of being a Christian in India. Their tragedy occurred only 13 years ago.

The official census of religious preference in India shows only about 3% of the population to be Christian, but no one knows for sure. Christians have refused to identify themselves to the government for many years because conversion to Christianity changes their political and social status, depriving them of programs designed to lift up the poor.
The Sunshine Gals will be taking sunshine again to two nursing facilities on the first Wednesdays of the month. If you’d like to join us with singing and sharing, please call Arlene Trull at 715.359.7756. She will give more information. They will be starting again on September 6th, and having breakfast together first.
